Christmas Eve Service

“I bring you good news of great joy for all people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.” - Luke 2:10-11 (NRSVUE)

Make this Christmas Special!

This Christmas Eve, join us for an evening of peace, reflection, and joy at our Candlelight Service! At 5:00 PM, we’ll gather celebrate the birth of Christ and the hope he brings into the world. At the end of the service, we’ll light candles and sing familiar carols together.

The service should last about 45 minutes.

Whether you’re a long-time member or visiting for the first time, all are welcome. We look forward to celebrating with you! Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

FAQs

  • “We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one body of Christ we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us” (from the Disciples of Christ Identity Statement).

We are part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a fellowship of over 2,800 congregations across the US and Canada. Disciples are known for their emphasis on inclusion and community service, coupled with a deep commitment to interpreting the Bible with thoughtfulness and nuance. We have no official creed or statement of faith. Rather, we affirm the dignity of each person’s conscience and respect the uniqueness of each person’s journey.

As our spiritual forbears were fond of saying, “In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In all things, love.”

People from a variety of backgrounds have found a spiritual home at FCC. We find unity in our diversity through a shared commitment to Jesus. Jesus embodied a message of hope, justice, and love, and we strive to do the same!

  • First off, there’s no dress code. Feel free to dress however you feel comfortable! We’re not a suit-and-tie kind of church (though you’re welcome to dress more formally if that’s what you prefer).

Second, you can take Communion. We will offer Communion (also called Eucharist or the Lord’s Supper) as part of the service, and we are an open table people. If you have a relationship with Jesus, if you have accepted him as Lord and Savior, if you desire to know him better, then the table is for you. You don’t have to be perfect or fully understand what communion means. You don’t have to be a member of our church (or any church). Everyone is welcome to share in this act of worship if they so choose.

Finally, all the songs will be old standbys (Silent Night, Away in a Manger, etc.), so don’t worry about not knowing the music. If you want to sing along, great! If you just want to listen, also great! There’s no pressure to participate beyond your level of comfort.

  • Children of all ages and stages are welcome! We have activity books near the entrance to our worship space for families who need them. However, we’re hoping to keep the service short enough to keep kids engaged. If you have an infant or toddler and need to step out for a few moments, there are several rooms near the worship space that one of our ushers would be glad to direct you to.
