Hope and Help for All

When you’ve lost someone you love, the holidays can be one of the hardest times of the year. But grief isn’t only about death. We experience grief during the holidays due to major life transitions, estranged relationships – any number of reasons.

Grief is a personal experience, but empathy from those around you can make a big difference.

Join us at First Christian Church on November 16th for a special holiday-focused grief support group. We’ll offer helpful tips, listening ears, and hearts open to hear your story. Whether your loss is big or small, recent or distant, you are welcome.

FAQs

Will it cost anything? No. We are offering this group as a resource to our community free of charge. All handouts and materials will be provided.

Who will be facilitating the group? The group will be facilitated by Rev. Corey Harrison, FCC’s pastor. During the week, Corey works full-time with the families of hospice patients and is well-acquainted with the grieving process.

Can I bring a friend or family member? If you’d feel more comfortable having a trusted person by your side, you are welcome to bring them along, even if they aren’t themselves grieving.

How “religious” is the group? Yes, we are a church, but we believe strongly that everyone deserves support. Each time we’ve hosted a group, we’ve had a mixture of folks from our church and members of the community. The vast majority of attendees do espouse some version of the Christian faith. However, a variety of denominations and perspectives are present. If you have no religious faith, or if spiritual issues are a part of your grief, you are just as welcome as anyone else! The material we use for the group is designed with everyone in mind (i.e., it isn’t explicitly faith-based). Group members are welcome to process their grief from whatever perspective is most helpful to them, religious or not. All group members are expected to treat one another with openness and respect, regardless of race/ethnicity, religion, age, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
